Who we are
MAHVL
Mount Angeles High Valley Llama
We have been with Llamas since about 1996. Bought as young, 6 month old to year old locally produced males. After 2 or 3 years we had 6 or so. We turned them into packers for our own use here on the Olympic Peninsula in Washington state.
Those first boys no comparison to the Ccara llama of today! The first of our packers of the 2009 era came from Al and Sondra Ellis, Highline Trail llamas of Boulder Wy. At the time, I thought I had a pretty good idea of what we wanted in body style, confirmation etc. I remember talking to Sondra before my first visit and asking “how many llamas do you have?”… “180 head” she replied. I knew then I had to visit Boulder Wy. That ensuing trip is when I came face- to- face with our first “ Hi Trail” boy, Café Alexander. Alex a smaller boy became our toughest packer, and is now being used as a packer/ breeder of our first time mom’s. After Alex came “Bill Adama”, Haleys Comet, and then Mitchell; the boys that helped pack out over the years, 20 some Elk out of the mountains of Idaho.
I began to realize my future need for replacement’s. Al and Sondra were starting to wind things down as were other prominent breeders of the day. That place that had 180 llamas was no longer out there. A picture of a 2- year- old female on Al’s site was boring a hole in me; Her name “Athena’s Luna”. Luna was and is a looker. I really enjoy looking at nice- looking llamas! We visited Al and Sondra again to take a closer look, and came away with 3 young ladies: Luna, Annabell Lee, Lynda Carter; We have recently added Charmaigne to the group. Those girls have turned into the basis of our foundation. Along with Alex I have used Adama and Mitchell as breeders. We have a son of Zorro “Mather” to potentially help us with Vaughn daughters too. We have a good representation of popular genetics: Spock, Canad, Daniel Jackson, LS Magma, Jordan’s White Sock’s, Black Thunder. Are some that come to mind.
And then High Trail Vaughn steps into the picture, he and I first met when we picked up the girls; ”beautiful boy I told Al “. He is now being used on 4 of our girls, the first part of the breeding season, May thru mid- July. He then visits Estacada Oregon, where he finishes out his summer breeding season. Vaughn has given us 9 beautiful daughters and in 2023 one outstanding son, the first of what I was looking for. His first daughter, “Daisy”, is due with her first cria in August. His 2022 daughters have wither height’s over 50”… at 21 months, incredible! Remember… I like looking at nice looking llamas. July 2023, 2 of his daughters were shown at a llama show in Oregon. They came home with a bucket full of ribbons. I am here to say, “ they look just as good in the show ring as they do in the breeding pen”. Vaughn spends his winters in Boulder where he and Al keep each other going.
We have put together some pictures of past llama hikes. As well as of the crias and their Mother’s. We hope you enjoy them as much as we have enjoyed making them . We are now entering our 8th year of breeding, crias coming soon. I will do my best to refresh the site with more pictures, please be patient
